I began donating while in university after interviewing staff at the permanent donation centre in Ottawa for a class assignment. Since I was already there, and had just learned of the need for blood, I figured it made sense to plop into a chair and join the movement.
Over the years, I have continued to give as we moved all over the province. It's just an hour every few months and the staff and volunteers always make the visit a highlight of my week. As a professional journalist, I have covered countless crashes and injuries where people have required blood transfusions to stay alive. It's nice to be part of a system that does so much good for something I can easily share.
