“Urgent! Please donate blood now!” pleaded the Facebook post from my friend Tanya in Barbados. Her friend's mom was in critical need. A few minutes later I saw a Canadian Blood Services sign also calling out for blood.
The double-whammy got me a little emotional.
I can't thank you individually, blood donors, because I don't know who you are. So I'll share my appreciation generally. Thank you for saving me.
Without your selflessness, my life would have ended many years ago. My week-long stay in the ICU would have been cut short. Blood would not have drained into me as fast as the valves in my veins would accept it. I would not have had so many visits in the hospital from family and friends.
My brief stay would not have ended with me going home and getting my strength back over the year to come.
Thank you for saving my parents from seeing me die young. Thank you for all I've gotten to experience as an adult.
Thank you for giving me the chance to meet my wife.
Thank you for my boys.
Thank you for the people you have saved in the past and those that you will save in the future. You will probably never meet those you save, but you save them all the same.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
