With WWII in full swing, my father, already having 4 brothers in the armed forces was asked what he did. He told them that he had a farm. After the mandatory blood tests it was found he had O-negative blood. They asked him to go home and take of his farm but to donate blood as often as was allowed. He did that. He told me long before he passed that he never really counted the times but was sure it was over 100 times over the years. I am approaching my 100 as well and will continue as long as I can.
