My story is a very long one and so I've decided to keep this short but sweet.
At 30 years old I was diagnosed with CVID and Evans syndrome.
My hemoglobin dropped out of no where to 50 and I needed a life saving blood transfusion on the spot. My body for unknown reasons attacks and destroys my red blood cells.
For my Evans syndrome I need to receive IVIG infusions once a month.
I just recently was rushed back to hospital and needed another blood transfusion and I can't even express my gratitude to those people who donate blood. I've had a really hard go these last two years but the blood and blood products I receive help me live my life to the fullest. I get to go to the park with my daughter and actually have the energy to keep up with her. I rely on blood to live a normal life and it means the world to me!
On top of all this I developed Alopecia and lost all my hair and had to come to terms with the fact that I'm forever changed. But I realize because of blood donors that I'm so much more than the superficial. Without my energy and strength I receive from the blood/blood products my quality of life would be very much reduced.
For me being able to get up out of bed and just enjoy my family and friends is what this life is all about. I appreciate the little things that most people take for granted like doing laundry! Lol
I have a new appreciation for life that I feel most people don't understand. I'm actually very lucky that I get to appreciate the small things and really value my life for what's it's really about.
I recently had a photo shoot to celebrate me as I am now and it was so liberating. I have my struggles and my challenges but because of the blood I receive I can keep championing through my life with my head held high.
To those who donate, you are my hero and you make it possible for me to stay strong everyday and be an example of strength for my daughter. You are so appreciated and I wish I could hug each and every one of you!
