Between the ages of 18 and 65 I was a regular blood donor, giving over 160 times in those years. At age 65 I received a great letter from Canadian Blood Services thanking me for my efforts but also informing me that because of my age I was no longer eligible to donate. Fair enough: rules are rules. Imagine my surprise when a few weeks before my 75th birthday I received a telephone call from Canadian Blood services inviting me to donate blood. (They must keep their files for a long time.) "Yes, the rules have changed. You ARE ELIGIBLE to donate blood." Great, I thought - and as fate would have it I recommenced donating blood on my 75th birthday. Thank you, Canadian Blood Services.
